S.S.C / C.B.S.E - is there a difference?

We have been asked time and over again, about the differences between the CBSE board and the SSC board. As we have claimed over and over again, there is hardly any difference between the two syllabi content-wise!
But, that was not believable, so we actually got down to comparing some subjects lesson-wise. Please note, this is ongoing work, and by no means complete. We have compared only some textbooks for now, and will put up rest of the subjects later.
Plus, the syllabus for Std. 9 and Std. 10 is about to change next year. We expect that both the boards will come to par in this revision. Up to par? Didn’t we just tell you there is no difference? Well, we kind of lied. As of now, the SSC curriculum is harder to study than the CBSE curriculum in many areas. We hope that in the newer revisions, all the syllabi will be at the same level.
OK - so we say that content-wise they are the same. What about the exams? The exams in CBSE are easier (we will talk only about Std. 10). The correction is not as strict as SSC either. Then why in the world do we follow the SSC board? For a simple reason that we are in Maharashtra! The government of Maharashtra always prefers students from the SSC board in its colleges (HSC). There is an ongoing legal battle for that too.
There have been talks of us shifting to CBSE in a couple of years. Wait a minute - what are we trying to do here? First mention that we are SSC, point out that there is no difference between SSC and CBSE, then talk about HSC, and now this?!
Hear us out. What we have figured out, at least for now, is that 10th std CBSE students do not even have to give the 10th Std SSC exam if they want to continue in the same school! (please take this note with a pinch of salt - we still have to confirm this) That relieves a lot of pressure from the 10th Std. children. It also benefits us, as we do not have to imbibe the Millennium culture in new students too! Not to mention the tremendous relief parents get that once their child is admitted in Nursery, he or she will be taken care up to the 12th class!

So, to summarize, we were, are and will be affiliated to the S.S.C board, and will change only if there is a need to do so.
