Day Boarding
Why a day boarding school?
There are two ways in which this question can be asked. One is - why a day boarding school instead of a residential one? And the other is – why a day boarding school instead of a regular 5 hour school like the other regular schools? We will try to answer the question both ways in this article.
We firmly believe that a child learns a lot from the family as well and should spend enough time with family in the formative years. With this belief, having a residential school is out of the question. Parents and relatives should interact with the child. The child should hang out with them, observe their habits, understand family relations and personalities, learn about their own customs and traditions. For all this, it is essential that the child lives at home. We therefore do not plan to start a residential school even in the future. It will continue to be a day boarding school.
Now, let us come to the second approach. Why do we need to keep the child in school for so long? We want the child to be exposed to academic concepts in a systematic way. That takes a little longer than the traditional approach. In a regular school, the teacher reads out the lesson in class, explains the difficult words, may repeat the lesson once more and marks the answers or dictates them in class. That is the end of that lesson and they move on to the next lesson. You have already been explained how we deal with academics at Millennium. That process takes longer than this. Therefore, the child needs more study time in school.
You know how important we think sports education is in a child’s life. Each child spends 90 minutes everyday on sporting activity. In a regular school, a child has a 45 minute sport period a week. Hence, we need to have the children in school for a longer time.
You are also familiar with how much technology and computer use is integrated in academics. Children spend a lot of time in the computer labs where one on one teaching sessions are simulated. That activity also takes up a fair amount of time. We also have a well structured drawing, craft, dance and music program. Therefore, these activities have more time in our time table than regular schools do.
All these activities make our school longer than usual. Because the children are here for so long, we need to give them lunch and snacks. With that time added to the children’s time in school, the school becomes a day boarding school instead of a half day school. But, the time spent is well utilized and your child is at a much greater advantage than any regular school goer.
Team Millennium is also always open to new ideas and willing to listen to any different schemes or projects from you because ultimately we share the same goal - enrichment of our new generation.
