"What
we must remember above all in the education of our children is
that their love of life should never weaken." These golden
words accentuate the core inspiration and the driving force of
Millennium National School.
|
|
Ordinarily,
a child's life today, is a mad rush. His day is spent shuttling
between school (with the usual burden on his back) and home,
tuition and home, computers and hobby classes and home, sports-ground
and home. And finally at home there is the homework to be
tackled. In such a hectic schedule there is very little time
and energy left for the parents to instil and the child to
cultivate this 'love of life'. |
| This
is precisely where Millennium National School comes in. Here
we take a wholistic approach encompassing each and every aspect
associated with your child's schooling. Once you enrol your
child in Millennium, we take care of everything that he needs.
It includes all the academic work as well as the revision,
homework, additional preparation etc. We prepare him for examinations
and if his results are not to his potential, then we engage
him in remedial methods to improve them. |
|
|
Other
than regular schoolwork, he gets professional training in
sports and extracurricular activities under special coaches
and depending upon his abilities and interests can pursue
any one activity in higher standards to achieve state or
national level.
We
provide him nutritious food at proper times to make sure
that his physical growth is proper. He is taken on excursions
and field trips to obtain firsthand experience of things
that he learns about in the curriculum. Our own van service
provides safe travel to and fro.
We
provide him all the writing / drawing / craft material,
textbooks and worksheets which are kept at the school so
that he does not have to carry any load on his back. Special
clothing for swimming etc. is provided by us. Our adequate
laundry facility keeps this special clothing clean and hygienic.
|
 |
Our
computer facility, much bigger than even professional institutes,
provides enough hands-on experience on computers to make him
ready for the future. Our workshops and horticulture facilities
provide enough work experience.This well-integrated and all-rounded
approach not only develops a child's mental and physical faculties
but also stirs his deeper sensibilities making him a good
human being. And this in turn helps him appreciate life in
a fuller sense. |
| Imparting
academic education is the main goal of a school. Due importance
is given to complete all the academic needs in a systematic
way. Proper teaching requires personal attention of a teacher;
hence the number of children in each class is limited to 48.
|
| We
follow the method of programmed learning, invented by Dr.
Sudheer Phatak in 1988 and successfully used by thousands
of students in various schools. In this method, matter to
be taught during each period for each subject, throughout
the year, is planned in advance by a group of experienced
teachers and worksheets are prepared for each class. The material
includes introduction to a topic, pictures, maps and diagrams
to better understand the concept. It also includes enough
practice material on the topic. The emphasis is on motivating
a child to discover things for himself and thus understand
a concept. Comparisons with known situations and artificial
scenarios for predictions from the theory help him to do so.
Learning thus becomes a pleasure as it reduces the burden
of memorising. With planned teaching, each and every topic
is given proper time and taught to perfection. There is no
last minute rush to complete the portion before an examination.
No topic is left unattended. |
|
| In
fact, examinations have a different meaning at Millennium.
We believe that examinations ought to be conducted to find
out the weaknesses and strengths of a child so that more time
could be spent to correct the weak points. This essentially
means that many tests have to be conducted and analysed thoroughly.
Children need to be regrouped after every test so that remedial
program can be carried out efficiently. Manual handling of
this problem is a monumental and hence impossible task. We,
however, carry out this activity on computers. Our team of
software experts under the guidance of Dr. Phatak has developed
special software to teach and test each subject on computers.
Solving of a problem is broken down into small units such
that each unit tests a different ability. As a child tackles
the problem on a computer, time taken and number of attempts
required to complete a stage are analysed to test the various
abilities involved. This helps us to periodically regroup
the children to overcome the deficiencies. This method of
testing is given more weightage in lower classes. The conventional
methods of testing gain more priority in higher classes as
a student has to appear for conventional examination for his
school graduation and we do not want him to hamper his career
by not being ready for this type of testing. |
 |
Computers
are used extensively in the school but in a different way.
Emphasis is not so much on the computer learning but using
computers to learn the school curriculum. We have developed
special software, which allows a child to learn at his own
pace, explore and correct himself. Response from students
in a classroom is always collective and hence only general
doubts can be cleared. With one to one interaction on a computer,
a child can spend more time on a topic until he (or rather
the teacher, through the program) feels comfortable about
his progress. This software, not available anywhere, is a
special highlight of our education. |
| Students
at Millennium are not planned to be confined to a single classroom.
For each subject they will move to a specially designed room
(standardwise) for that subject. While language classrooms
will have dictionary on each table, science classroom will
house a small laboratory. Geography classroom will have walls
designed with 3-d maps. This not only will create mood for
that subject but will also help in proper teaching. Every
classroom will have a TV and video so that a clip, relevant
to the topic of discussion, can be immediately shown during
the class. Text books and worksheet files are kept in the
classroom so that they are readily available for each class. |
| Teaching
outside a classroom is equally important. Excursions and field
trips, outside the campus are planned as required but we give
emphasis to workshop activities. We have several specially
planned workshops that allow students to develop various skills
and experiment with the ideas learnt in the classroom. Our
botanical garden, horticultural activity and mini-zoo allow
the interaction with nature. These activities are intended
to reduce the need of memorising and increase the reasoning
and analytical ability by applying the knowledge acquired.

|
|
Students
are required to work on projects. The topics are diverse
and the level changes as per the age group. Since all of
us have to work in a group when we grow up, we feel that
sooner a child inculcates this habit it's better for his
development. This helps to understand how a big problem
can be broken down into smaller, manageable problems. A
child learns to share, gather, compile and present information.
Leadership qualities are also developed and brought forward
through this exercise. We are always open to new ideas and
willing to listen to any different schemes or projects from
you because ultimately we share the same goal, enrichment
of our new generation.
